Spec sheets are designed to confuse. Here's a short, honest checklist for the four things people most often buy in the Diwali sale. It doesn't name specific models, because those change every week. It tells you what to look for so you can judge any listing yourself.
Smartphones
What matters:
- Software updates: how many years of Android and security updates the brand promises.
- Storage: 128 GB minimum in 2026, more if you shoot a lot of video.
- Battery and charging: 5,000 mAh is the norm now.
- Main camera quality in low light. Watch real sample videos, not the megapixel count.
What doesn't matter much: extra macro or depth cameras, and the very highest refresh rates on budget phones.

Televisions
- Size by distance: about 7 to 8 feet away, 43 to 50 inches is plenty.
- 4K with good HDR support matters more than "AI picture" labels.
- Smart OS: pick one with the apps you use (Hotstar, Prime Video, YouTube).
- Sound: most slim TVs sound thin. Budget for a small soundbar.
Laptops
- RAM: 16 GB is the comfortable minimum now. 8 GB feels slow fast.
- SSD storage: 512 GB if you can.
- Weight and battery if you carry it to college or office daily.
- Processor generation: a newer mid-range chip often beats an old high-end one.
Earbuds and headphones
- Fit matters more than anything. Check that ear tips in several sizes come in the box.
- ANC (active noise cancellation) is worth it for metro and flight commutes.
- Call quality: read reviews that mention calls specifically.
The money part
- No-cost EMI isn't always free. Check for processing fees and whether the discount is lost on EMI.
- Exchange offers: compare the exchange value with what you'd get selling it yourself.
- Always compare the price history. Our guide: how to spot a fake Diwali discount.
Frequently asked questions
Is it better to buy a phone in the Diwali sale or wait?+
If you need a phone now, festive sales usually offer good prices plus bank offers. If a new model of the phone you want launches soon, waiting can get you a better price on the older one.
What TV size should I buy for my room?+
A simple rule: for a seating distance of about 7 to 8 feet, a 43 to 50 inch 4K TV works well. Go bigger only if you sit further away.
